Among the contributions of SNMREC to the Marine Renewable Energy (MRE) growing industry is assistance with solutions to technical problems that, when solved, provide a reduction in the cost of energy of future commercial development offshore, while also fast-tracking commercialization by reducing the burden on individual companies to solve problems common to the industry. SNMREC leverages partnerships with companies and researchers to help answer questions and develop solutions.

Many of the challenges require specialized research equipment to be designed, constructed, and tested. The areas included in this section represent the major projects that SNMREC engineers and researchers are busy developing to provide specialized insights and solutions.
