Vessels
Because the Florida Current core is typically located 15-20nm offshore (near Port Everglades where the offshore test sites are located), specialized vessels were selected and outfitted to support offshore testing needs and to engage in regular ocean measurement missions. Both are trailer-able, which allow for access to a large portion of Florida and the southeast US.
- R/V Ocean Power: This purpose-built 33 foot vessel is a fiberglass hull open-console design which provides quick access to offshore sites and is can deploy small-scale oceanographic instruments and sensors. Notable features include: custom dynamic positioning system, instrument well, stern davit, onboard ruggedized PCs, through-hull ADCP integrated with ship systems, and a full suite of electronics, navigation, and safety equipment.
- R/V Lee: Based on a Zodiac RHIB design, this vessel provides a fast and durable platform for small instrument deployment and testing, offshore test site support and re-provisioning, and dive operations.
